Brian asked:
I am just beginning programming, though I have some knowledge of the very basic concepts like variables from starting to learn Perl and Javascript, but giving up due to a lack of time and enthusiasm. However, I now am ready and willing to learn PHP and MySQL, since I already have a decent idea for a useful website.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m only 14 years old, but I would say I am smart.

If you are a beginner at programming, you should probably concentrate on the basics of PHP first. ‘Learning PHP 5′ from O’Reilly isn’t bad.
Once you have the PHP programming basics down, try ‘Learning PHP & MySQL’ from O’Reilly to add SQL.

You should try the free online tutorials on. They have excellent guides and you can purchase their book. I’ve learned how to program PHP & MySQL from them, and so can you.
