I want to properly learn PHP. I have used it for handling forms but I don’t really know what it’s doing or how to customize to do other special things I want it to do. Can you recommend a site or tutorials that doesn’t just tel me what variables are, because I know but helps me make it do a useful job.

I know only some html. I am 46 would like to change career. I am thinking learning PHP and possibly LAMP to get a job as entry level. How long do you guys think it will take me to learn the material. I was thinking developing under linux but I know nothing about linux. Will it be more beneficial to learn under windows? If I study about 3 H per day , how long will it take me to get there. Thanks.

I was told not to learn asp.net but instead learning PHP which will allow me to get a job much quickly as the learning curve is not that bad. What do you guys think?
